For today’s Small Business Spotlight, we talked to Harriet M. Sacher, a US-based sculptor who specializes in wood and stone.
Tell us a little about yourself and what you do?
I love to play in the dirt! Gardening in Florida is a challenge but i have a lovely rose garden despite it all!
What inspired you to get started with carving?
After my second kid was born i decided that i needed to try something new. So I enrolled in the New School for Social Research in New York City and took art courses.
What’s your favorite part of carving?
Seeing something emerge from within the stone. Like cracking the shell off of a walnut!
What is the most exciting experience you’ve had?
Being juried with a number of sculptors for an exhibition and being accepted.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I spend time with my pets, garden, visit my grand babes, and spend time with friends.
Any advice to people who want to start something they believe in and are passionate about?
Just DO it. You never know what you can do until you try.
What are your 5 favorite foods?
Chicken, tofu, artichokes, grits, and chocolate!
