Tell us a little about yourself and Gale McAll photography.
I live where two oceans meet—at the Cape of Storms, close to Cape Point. We have some of the most beautiful scenery surrounding us as well as a very diverse culture. I love capturing the essence of life—nature and people.
What inspired you to get started?
My Mother was an artist and photographer and I started working in our dark room when I was about 12. I loved seeing the images come to life in the developing room.
What’s your favorite part about taking photographs?
Knowing that you have captured a moment in time that will instill emotion.
What is the most exciting experience you’ve had?
About 5 years ago I did a photoshoot of a storm with my first digital camera. The images look like a series of magical old paintings. It was so exciting having big waves breaking around us with beautiful early morning lighting. Just exquisite.
Some tips to emerging photographers?
Learn the rules of photography and then break them. Try different angles and techniques until you find your own style. Learn from critiques but if it feels right to you that is all that matters. Follow your passion.
What do you like to do in your free time?
Run a folk music venue, play my violin and lots of photo editing.
What are your 5 favorite foods?
Curry, Chilli, Mediterranean , Indonesian and Ice cream 🙂
